I’ve already seen a nutritionist in NYC, how is this program any different? Manhattan Medical Weight Loss in NYC provides individualized nutrition counseling under a board supervised physician’s supervision, which gives the NYC Nutritionist invaluable tools to use with her weight loss patients. Ms. Nerantzis is a Registered Dietitian and New York State Certified Dietitian / Nutritionist. Ms. Nerantzis completed a rigorous academic training in order to qualify for a spot in a clinical internship. After completing a rigorous clinical internship, she passed a national exam qualifying her a NYC Registered Dietitian. Additionally, she has a Master of Public Health degree in Public Health Nutrition. Under the supervision of the medical weight loss doctor, Sue Decotiis, MD, the NYC Nutritionist is able to provide her patients not only with customized dietary and nutritional plans and one-on-one counseling but also with the option of meal replacements, FDA-approved prescription medications (such as appetite suppressants), and pharmaceutical grade vitamins and supplements. The nutritionist has the knowledge of the latest science and advances in the medical field at her fingertips and utilizes them to help patients achieve maximum and healthy weight loss.
If I elect a meal replacement program why would I use meal replacements to lose weight? How does that teach me to how to eat healthy? Meal replacements are a useful tool in weight loss programs. They provide a nutritionally complete meal that is portion controlled and alleviates the stress and pressure that comes with having to “count calories” or “count carbohydrates” and measure every morsel of food. At a later point in your weight loss journey, tackling appropriate portion sizes of foods will be an important part of your nutritional learning, but in the beginning of a dietary weight loss program it is one less thing you need to think about. We provide you with your meals and we are able to control the calories you are consuming while providing you with optimal nutrition. There is less room for error and an increased chance of success for you. Studies show that patients who use meal replacements may lose up to twice as much weight as those who do not use them in their weight loss program. Many patients who have successfully lost weight continue to incorporate some meal replacements into their lives even during weight loss maintenance.
Do you offer vitamin injections and/or supplements at Manhattan Medical Weight Loss Center in NYC? Patients typically receive 2 vitamin injections on all of the programs we offer these include B12 and Lipo-B (which is a lipotropic combination of B-vitamins to assist with fat breakdown in the body).
Can I just get a prescription medication for an appetite suppressant from the doctor and not sign up for one of your weight loss plans? The medical weight loss doctor does not write prescriptions for patients if they are not signed up for one of our weight loss plans. Manhattan Medical Weight Loss of NYC takes medical weight loss seriously and believes that your weight loss program needs to supervised by a medial weight loss doctor and nutritionist. We offer customized weight loss plans and our weight loss patients will find that one of our plans will be a perfect fit for them. Prescription weight loss medications (such as appetite suppressants) on their own do not induce weight loss or fat loss. It is the combination of medication, changes in dietary habits and physical activity that will produce successful results as well as long-term successful maintenance of weight. If you choose to eat your own foods, the nutritionist will customize a meal plan for you – it is specifically designed to help you lose fat and you should be adhering to it even when on medications to get the results you want.
How much weight can I expect to lose? Results vary based on a variety of factors including starting weight and starting body fat percentage, the type of weight loss plan you choose and your caloric level, and your adherence to the nutrition protocol. On average women can lose anywhere from 1-4 pounds a week (results may vary), and men can lose an average of 2-6 pounds a week (results may vary).
Do you treat overweight children? We currently treat patients age 18 and over.
Will I gain the weight back after I finish one of the weight loss programs at Manhattan Medical Weight Loss Center of NYC? Completing a weight loss program and then stopping will not make you gain weight but going back to old eating habits will. Weight loss maintenance is the most difficult part of the weight loss journey. Obesity is a chronic condition, one that requires lifelong management. There will be times when patients need to follow a strict plan, however patients will eventually be able to eat a varied diet and enjoy most foods in moderation. The key here is “moderation.” If someone is not being mindful of what they are eating, the likelihood of gaining weight increases.
The NYC Nutritionist customizes maintenance plans for all her patients to fit their lifestyle. The maintenance program provides ongoing support and accountability as well as ongoing nutrition education.
How often do I need to come in for a visit? Follow-up visits vary based on the program you are on. You may be required to come in weekly, bi-weekly or monthly and this will be determined at your consultation.
